Therapy For Women
Is The Pressure To Be Perfect Wearing On You?
- Do you have a hard time striking a satisfying balance between your work, relationships, and personal life?
- Are you overwhelmed by the pressure to check every box—and look good while doing it?
- Is it beginning to seem as though you don’t have space in your life that belongs solely to you?
If you’re anything like the other women we work with in therapy, then it probably feels like you’re being pulled in a thousand different directions every day. Juggling all that is expected of you, you may be feeling depleted and disconnected from your true emotions. After years of striving to be the “perfect” daughter, mother, partner, friend, and/or employee, you’re running on fumes.
Living this way is exhausting, right? You wake with a sense of dread or panic each morning, mentally going over your to-do list before embarking on another daily grind of work and caretaking.
But even though you’re exhausted by the day’s end, your brain doesn’t actually turn off, and you’re instead caught up in a hypervigilant, perfectionistic mindset at all hours. Your sleep is inconsistent, your mood is often unpredictable, and you’re left wondering when you’ll finally achieve that sense of fulfillment you’ve been working so hard to cultivate.
It’s normal that you are burnt out after months or years of living like this—and it’s okay to seek support. In the calm, safe atmosphere of counseling, you can learn to identify the root causes of your stress, anxiety, and relational challenges as you work alongside a woman who understands your emotions, empathizes with your experiences, and has made trauma and stress repair her life’s work.
“Having It All” Is A Myth
The San Francisco Bay Area is a fast-paced environment full of high-functioning people who are used to being successful in just about every aspect of their lives. Add this kind of pressure to the gendered expectations and barriers women face in our society, and it makes sense that many of us feel overwhelmed, overworked, and undervalued. Despite being objectively “successful” in our work and relationships, we’re often stretched too thin to actually enjoy our lives.

Many Women Have Experienced Trauma But Have Not Been Empowered To Heal

In addition to the nearly impossible gendered norms we’re expected to meet as women, the vast majority of us are living with the shadow of unresolved trauma. Statistically speaking, due to gender-based discrimination and violence, women are much more likely than men to experience complex trauma and PTSD.
That said, women are not encouraged to vocalize our experiences or seek therapy—rather, we are expected to “power through” the pain with a smile on our face, consistently putting others’ needs and comfort ahead of our own. The struggle is an isolating one, often creating the misconception that other women are managing better than we are and that our emotions are not worthy of validation or relief.
At Trauma Healing Therapy, we are a women-owned, women-led practice that works with clients to uncover core wounds in counseling. Through this process, our aim is to offer sustainable, individualized solutions for navigating stress and fostering resilience.
Our Practice Specializes In Therapy For Women’s Issues
We are a team of experienced, compassionate therapists available to work with women of all backgrounds and experiences in counseling. Whether you’re having difficulty managing your relationships, struggling to achieve a healthy work-life balance, or just ready to let go of the perfectionistic, guilt-ridden inner voice holding you back, we are here to help you make sense of your symptoms so that you can experience long-term healing and relief.
What To Expect
Our treatment approach is collaborative and highly individualized to your unique goals. Some of the trauma-focused techniques we’re likely to incorporate are:
- Mindfulness and grounding techniques – introduced at the start of treatment to help manage feelings of stress, discomfort, and overwhelm.
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – a highly effective form of therapy that uses guided eye movements to reprocess traumatic memories and reduce distress.
- Somatic practices – from a body-based perspective, these skills will help soothe the nervous system in a way that facilitates feelings of safety and reconnection.
- The Flash Technique – a very gentle, evidence-based approach that changes the way traumatic/stressful memories are stored and recalled.
When appropriate, readings and “homework” assignments may be provided to support progress between sessions, all with the goal of enhancing your communication, emotional regulation, and sense of self-worth.
Like so many of the women we’ve worked with in therapy, we know you have been living life in survival mode. Yet, healing is within reach.
Our therapists are here to empower you as you develop strategies for creating a life in which you feel valued, balanced, and in control. You deserve a space where you can reconnect with your authentic self, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
Still Unsure If Women’s Therapy Is Right For You?
Will my therapist be able to understand/identify with my unique situation?
While our therapists acknowledge that every story is unique, we also understand that, as women, there are certain shared norms and experiences. Taking a nonjudgmental, humanistic approach, we seek to meaningfully empathize with the complexity of your experiences while also creating a supportive space where you can focus on your individual healing journey.
Our providers are highly trained in a range of trauma-focused and relationship healing techniques, offering years of experience helping women navigate life’s challenges—and we are confident we can help you too.
I’ve tried therapy in the past, but I continue to struggle; how is your approach different?
Many of the women we work with in counseling have tried therapy before only to be disappointed in the results. We see you, and we know how frustratingly discouraging this can be.
At Trauma Healing Therapy, we use highly effective, body-based approaches (including EMDR and The Flash Technique) that address symptoms at the source. We find that many women come to therapy with unhealed relational wounds, so much of our individual counseling approach revolves around how to enhance connection and create healthy, secure attachments. We also provide Couples Therapy for clients looking to go beyond individual counseling for trauma repair.
No matter what you bring to therapy, you are never alone in this journey. Our therapists will personalize this process in a way that steers you toward a brighter, more balanced, and more fulfilling future.
What if my schedule doesn’t accommodate consistent weekly therapy?
We understand that, on top of managing very busy professional and personal obligations, our clients are residents of the fast-paced, tech-centered San Francisco Bay Area, which typically makes in-person weekly sessions difficult to schedule. That’s why we offer the women we work with online counseling options and flexible scheduling (with online and weekend appointments available). In many cases, we can accommodate consultations and intake sessions within 24 hours.
Additionally, we’re pleased to offer intensive therapy for clients who may have scheduling limitations or want to expedite the healing process.
You Are Enough
At Trauma Healing Therapy, we work with a wide range of women in counseling to address issues of stress, burnout, and unhealed emotional wounds. Book a free consultation with one of our therapists or contact us for more information. In-person sessions are available to residents of Cupertino and the greater San Francisco Bay Area, and online sessions are available to clients throughout California.
